Spellink – Privacy Policy

Spellink (“the App”) is an educational mobile application designed for children and teens ages 6–15 to learn spelling and phonics. We are committed to protecting the privacy of children, teens, and families who use the App. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the rights of parents and guardians.

1. Information We Collect

Spellink is designed to minimize data collection. We do NOT collect personal information such as:

• Child’s full name
• Home address
• Phone number
• Precise GPS location
• Photos or videos from the device camera

However, some limited information may be collected automatically or when a parent chooses to create an account.

a. Automatically Collected Data (Non-Personal)

When you use the App, we may automatically collect non-personal information such as:

• Device information (model, operating system version)
• App usage information (screens viewed, features used)
• Crash and performance data
• Anonymous learning progress (e.g., completed levels, scores)

This information is used in aggregate form and is not used to personally identify any child.

b. Account and Login Information (Parent or Guardian Only)

Spellink may offer optional sign-in (for example, using an email address) so that progress can be synced across devices. Any account creation and login is intended to be done by a parent or guardian. When a parent creates an account, we may collect:

• Parent or guardian email address (via Firebase Authentication)

Children are not permitted to create accounts on their own.

c. Subscription and Purchase Information

Subscriptions and in-app purchases are processed by Google Play Billing. We do not receive or store your full payment information (such as credit card numbers). Google Play may provide us with non-sensitive information such as:

• Transaction status (active / expired subscription)
• Product purchased (e.g., premium plan)

2. How We Use the Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

• To provide and improve the learning experience in the App
• To track progress across lessons and levels
• To fix bugs and improve performance
• To manage subscriptions and verify premium access
• To understand how features are used so we can improve them

We do NOT sell personal data, and we do NOT use data for targeted or behavioral advertising.

3. No Advertising

Spellink does not display third-party advertisements in the App.

The App may offer a free tier and/or paid subscription options, but these are not based on advertising and do not rely on ad networks or advertising identifiers.

4. Third-Party Services We Use

Spellink uses trusted third-party services to provide core functionality. These services may collect and process limited data as described below.

Firebase Services

• Firebase Authentication – for optional parent account login with email.
• Firebase Firestore – to store user progress and app data.
• Firebase Storage – to host learning content and assets (e.g., images, audio).
• Firebase Analytics – to collect anonymous usage statistics and understand how users interact with the App.
• Firebase Crashlytics – to collect crash reports and improve stability.

Google Play Billing

Google Play Billing is used to process subscriptions and in-app purchases. Your payment information is handled by Google and is not stored by Spellink.

5. Children’s Privacy & COPPA

Spellink is designed for children and teens ages 6–15 and is used by families and schools. For users under the age of 13, we comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and other applicable child privacy laws.

In particular, we:

• Do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent.
• Minimize the information we collect and avoid collecting sensitive personal data.
• Do not display third-party ads directed to children.

If you believe that we have mistakenly or unintentionally collected personal information from a child under 13 without proper consent, please contact us at spellink01@gmail.com, and we will delete the information promptly.

6. Data Retention & Deletion

We retain data only for as long as is reasonably necessary to operate the App, provide services, comply with legal obligations, and resolve disputes.

Parents and guardians may request:

• Access to the data associated with their account or child’s use of the App
• Correction of inaccurate information
• Deletion of account and associated data

7. Security

We use industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect data processed through the App. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. International Users

Spellink may be used in different countries. By using the App, you understand that information may be processed and stored in other countries where our service providers (such as Firebase and Google) operate.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App or in applicable laws. When we do, we will update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
